Farm and Ranch Dogs

English shepherds were originally bred to be all-around helpers on the farm.  Stories abound of dogs that learned the routine of the farm and would make sure all the livestock were where they were supposed to be - even with holes in the fence or gates left open.

English shepherds handle whatever kind of livestock their owners have, from cattle and sheep to goats and ducks.  Most dogs can adjust their working style to handle a variety of livestock correctly.

Training Owners and Dogs
English Shepherd Club sponsored herding clinics and gatherings are great places to learn about training an English Shepherd.  To the left is Dianne Kuhl and Bailey at a herding clinic in North Carolina with Linda Rorem as the instructor.  Find out more about ESC herding clinics and gatherings here.  Learn more about working English Shepherds under our working dog evaluations page here.
