Coat Color and Pattern in English Shepherds
Extreme White
Extreme white markings are the result of a recessive gene at the white
spotting locus. If a dog inherits two copies of the extreme white
allele, the dog will be mostly white. If a dog inherits only one copy
of the extreme white allele, the amount of white may vary from very
little to quite a lot, depending on what the second allele inherited
at that locus is.
Because extreme white is a recessive pattern, it can result from the
crossing of two dogs who have little or no white themselves, but who
carry the recessive causing excessive white.
